Emperor Charles VI (1685-1740)
The family collection of Charles VI (formerly Carlos III, King of Spain) along with religious and genre artworks of previous emperors stored at Stallburg in the Hof Palace, formed a vast array of gorgeous paintings that covered the walls from floor to ceiling, reflecting popular Baroque taste at the time and displaying the glory of the Habsburg dynasty as well. The court painter in his service, A. Storffer, also compiled a sumptuous catalogue in three volumes with painted illustrations.
